Hemlock Public Schools - Bus Dispatcher
Department: Operations Department
Reports to: Superintendent of Schools
Employment: 6:00am through 9:30am Monday through Friday (42 weeks)
Compensation: $10.00 hourly rate
Start Date: As soon as possible.
Job Description: Under the general supervision of the Superintendent, an employee in this position has responsibility for the coordination and implementation of school bus schedules. Incumbent ensures that there are adequate vehicles and drivers available for the transportation of the pupils. Schedules are primarily for school hours, however may include after-school activities, as well. Does related work as required.
Qualifications:
- Good knowledge of school district area, location of all schools within the school district.
- Good knowledge of the maintenance and operation of buses.
- Familiarity with all routes and bus stops.
- Ability to use computer software applications.
- Ability to coordinate and schedule bus routes.
- Ability to deal effectively with bus drivers and parents.
- Clerical aptitude.
- Physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position.
Duties Include:
- Dispatches bus drivers to a proper vehicle for their assigned route;
- Reviews the proper route with substitute drivers’;
- Stays in communication with drivers by means of a two-way radio;
- Informs mechanic of break downs and other mechanical problems; driver responsibility,
- Accepts and verifies orders for rand schedules field trips and other school activities;
- Informs new drivers of department rules and regulations;
- Reviews driver’s daily trip sheet for various information.
- Handles phone calls from parents and other and relates student changes to the appropriate driver;
- Uses the computer to enter information and verify student information.
- Handles routine phone calls for the department.
